I am planning to start feeding my
two Pugs PMR soon. I would like
to know where I can get bulk and
case amounts of raw meat at a
very affordable price. I am a college student and can't afford to pay a
lotfor large meat cases. If someone can please provide me with this information, I will absolutely appreciate it a lot.

Hi Jennifer,

You are absolutely right. A lot of the domesticated animals raised for human consumption are pumped full of antibiotics and growth hormones. Its definitely not ideal, but if you think about it would you rather feed a kibble that is made from these same protein sources but rendered and processed to the max? Or would feeding the whole raw version be many steps better in the right direction? There are kibbles out there that use antibiotic free, holistic meats but they cost an arm and a leg! I personally think that the overall health benefits that dogs received from whole, raw foods (even ones that are "cheap") far outweigh the risk from eating highly processed kibble full of inappropriate ingredients.

In an ideal world I would feed 100% holistic meats to my dogs but I just can't afford it, so I do the next best thing and feed them whole raw foods that I can afford. I do try and get as much wild game because it doesn't get any better than that for a dog. In fact, if I could feed only one protein source it would be venison. Its the most nutritionally ideal protein source for dogs overall. We do feed wild game at least once per week and I try and get others to feed it on a regular basis as well. I applaud those who do in fact feed their dogs 100% holistic meats!

So it comes down to the idea of whether I would choose a holistic kibble over "cheap" raw meats...I would still choose "cheap" raw meats over any kibble. I used to feed EVO before the switch two years ago, and even feeding primarily the "cheap" meats I see a HUGE difference in my dogs' overall health. I guess you could say that feeding these types of meats could be called the "Kibbles N' Bits" of the raw world!

Great question! I hope this helps in understanding at least why I still choose to feed these types of meats to my dogs.

I just read in the New York Times Editorial section that 70% of antibiotics in the US go into animals raised for food...mostly pigs and chickens. They are fed the antibiotics with their feed because they are kept in close quarters and the meds keep them well enough to gain weight to be slaughtered. So now we feed the cheaper meats to our dogs, who in turn get these dosages of antibiotics?
Don't misunderstand. I would love to feed my dog the pmr way. It makes total sense. I just think that finding the cheapest meat may not be the best for my dog or anyone else's.
Obviously, if there are hunters in the home...you have less of an issue.
