Problems with Raw Feeding
Often times I hear or see people talk about how their dogs aren’t doing well on a raw diet. Either their dogs have diarrhea or vomiting, losing weight or a dull coat. This isn’t uncommon for recently switched dogs to a raw diet. Some dogs do better than others handling the transition, but those dogs that have a bit of trouble in the beginning may need some extra help. This is where this page comes in for the rescue.

Raw Meaty Bones by Dr Tom Lonsdale
Very interesting information in these blogs. Here I am giving some input from personal experience.
A friend of mine was feeding raw to his PWD. He had constant problems with bad breath, very atrocious and continuous flagellation, rumbling gut, and ate his own waste. He has since changed to a partially cooked diet, and kibble and is a much more comfortable dog, and better companion.
For my own dog, a BRT but clear of HUU, I feed large breed adult Orijen, mixed with some cottage cheese. He tolerates this very well, even with free range poultry in it. As far as dairy intolerance, no problem there either. On hot days I may add milk to kibble, to give him a cool temp meal. He quite enjoys it, and feces are normal.
When feces is left for a day, it is totally dry, and easy to pick up. He drinks a gallon of water or more a day, so no issue there.
I was originally feeding a 4 star food, but high in chicken and had long term diarrhea issues. Now that I avoid even natural chicken treats, and chicken broth…there is no issue at all.
I have some stress issues that keep me from all but the easiest managed feeding routines. Since Orijen is such a good alternative for us, we will stick with it.
Wishing all your babies good health!
