To anyone that has experience with torn cruciate ligaments...my 100lb (lean) newfie, Teddy, has torn his and the vet is recommending tplo surgery to correct the angle of his tibial plateau. This, I've been explained will reduce the possibility of the ligament tearing in the future. I've been on "Dr. Google" and have found so many success stories with conservative management such as light therapy, physical therapy, massage, acupressure...I've talked to my vet about these things (he is a very reputable vet that has a rehab center with a water treadmill, light therapy...) but he still strongly advises going to surgery route with a specialist at another hospital that deals in orthopedic care (also a very reputable surgeon in New England.) because he said the therapies will not change the confirmation of his tibial plateau and that's the root of the problem. I would so appreciate any info from people having these issues with their dogs!
Thanks so much.
