I didn't know whether to create a new topic or add to the one that was pinned, but I guess either way works!

My name is Liz, I am 27 years old, and I am currently residing in the Sierra Nevada Foothills of beautiful California (with plans to move up to Oregon in the summer of next year)! I don't work and instead am just a stay-at-home wife; I generally just take care of the pets, gardening, and pretty much anything I feel like doing. My husband works from home and we're pretty much inseparable. (: We both enjoy hiking, gardening, traveling, and beaches! Because who doesn't love the beach?

We have one puppy, which some of you have already seen and read about. Her name is Aiofe, a black labrador retreiver who was born on January 10, 2014. Aiofe started her raw diet today, May 6th, and I am really hoping that the transition goes well for her. She suffered from liquid poop, enlarged anal glands, a train wreck-sounding stomach, and really weird, pussing bumps/rashes on three different kibble brands. We had her fast all of yesterday and the weird skin condition has healed over already! Her stomach did not make any gurgling sounds! I have yet to see her solids, but I am very confident that she will digest it just fine. Here's to hoping!

We also befriended a feral cat, which my husband naturally named, "Kit". You wouldn't think she was feral; she would really rather soak up the sun in your lap all day long (assuming you have no headphones or phone chargers nearby - she thinks cables are snakes and gets crazy trying to attack them). That being said, she was on a raw diet since before we met her. Her daily diet consists of gophers, field mice, lizards, snakes, birds, or the infamous quail. She leaves nothing behind from her meals and you would never know she had even caught anything except for the fact that she thoroughly enjoys showing off her food. She literally struts around. Ho hum. And the photo below of Kit is our usual view from wherever we are eating - if we're not paying attention, she actually leaps from the ground, takes our food from our hands, and runs out of the room with it. We have an endless supply of entertainment here. (I should note: she actually did manage to steal a french fry after that photo, but not before splattering chipotle ketchup all over my shirt - she ate that, too...)

Anyway, that is us! Looking forward to getting to know everyone and learning PMR from people who have already been successfully doing so! Yay!

Gorgeous family! :) Welcome to the forum! There are lots of helpful people here and they have been able to answer every question I've had in almost 5 months of feeding raw.

Please keep us posted on your journey into PMR!

If you don't mind me asking, what county or city do you live in? We're located in Rocklin if you know where that is :) And if you are in the same foothills that I'm thinking we're in (neither my husband or I are from here, east coast/soCal, both stationed at Beale), you should check out foothillrawfeeders.com, it's a local co-op for the Placer and surrounding counties :D

OH! Totally awesome! Yeah, we're over in Placerville/Rescue! :D I'm just on the other side of the lake from you :P If we squint past our trees at night, we have a... "gorgeous" view of the Redhawk Casino (lol)! This co-op looks great! I can't wait to show my husband when he gets done with work today!

We're meeting up with one of our friends today who sells her honey at the local farmers market. She's friends with multiple vendors and is allowing me to pick all of the knowledge from her brain! Excited! :D

YAY glad to know there's someone that lives fairly close to us :D unfortunately I have no idea about what lake or casino you're talking about...are you talking about Folsom lake and the casino by the 65??? I would assume so since I don't know of any other casinos in the area lol. We've been here since last August but haven't explored too much :(

it took me a while to gain access to the site because it was down/the owner was having sick dog problems but once my account was accepted I was pleasantly surprised at how easy it was to navigate the site and the selection, even though I have yet to place an order. I believe the orders close around the 15th of every month so try to get your account approved and all the forms in by then! :)

HAHA! Oh whoops! Redhawk Casino is off of 50 East, lol. But yes, I was talking about Folsom Lake! I am East and a tiny bit south of Rocklin. You should go exploring around! There is actually a ton of stuff to do down highway 49 and in Folsom. AND GREAT FOOD! Nomnomnom. But I have to admit, I actually haven't explored Rocklin very much, so who am I to talk? Hahaha.

Are the Foothill Raw Feeder prices pretty comparable? I'm in the process of working out a barter to get some awesome pork products (for when Aiofe is ready, of course) from a woman who actually lives practically in my backyard (she's one highway exit away). And since she's heavy into farming, I'm going to see what else I'll be able to snag from her or anyone else she may know in the Agriculture area. I'm also going to be helping my honey friend unload some of her rabbit and quail in the near future. Excellennntt.

Welcome to the group!!!!

THANK YOU! I am super excited to be here! Hopefully I can learn a lot from everyone and then be able to share my knowledge in the future with more members! :D

Thank you! And my goodness, yes is she large!!! She's only 16 weeks and the girl weighs 42 lbs.! I'm hoping it was growth spurts from the kibble, but she has actually gained her size and weight at a constant pace. I'm  hoping she magically reverts back to puppy size! Bahaha. One can dream.

Hahaha, well, funny thing about her name. It was actually supposed to be the Irish name "Aoife" (not Aiofe) which is pronounced "Eee-fuh". I pronounce it that way. I misspelled it early on, but actually liked the way it looked misspelled... soooo we kept it! Lol. Her official records say Aoife though!

LOL You and the rest of the planet! I've only met one person who knew how to pronounce it right off the bat! I usually call her Aiofe-Bug, but she has also started responding to just bug. I probably shouldn't confuse her, but oh well!^-^

Yup I also thought that's how you pronounced it hahaha.

Ok for some reason I was thinking of THunder Valley (that name totally escaped me last post lol) We have ventured out a bit but there's just so many little cities and towns tucked away up here and it's hard because everything is so far and spaced out away from each other but then again driving an hour or two around here doesn't phase me anymore ._. One of my coworkers lives out in Folsom/Granite Bay I think and it's GORGEOUS out there. but we try not to drive all over the damn state every weekend lol

I think they're pretty good, in general I don't ever spend more than 1.99/lb on ANY kind of poultry/meat/fish, keeps us within budget and we couldn't afford more anyways. I made a list of what items they offer that are within that price range and it's a decent list w/o getting all the fancy exotic cuts of course. I know a lot of the animals are either grass fed or local so they're a tad pricier but still within reasonable means. Just not for us yet :P I have found quite a few other stores that have some things cheaper but quality might not be as great + that means commuting to more than one place to get our stuff. When we move out and are able to get a chest freezer I'll be doing some heavy ordering from the co-op and it'll just be more convenient than to spend all that gas money going to various places :)

I was wondering what you meant by your honey friend lol XD I thought...honey for your pup? THat's just something I never heard of lol but maybe some people do idk! And that's awesome, I wish I was able to network like that, I'm not as outgoing as I would like to be to get the fat hookups like that :P The only fat hookup I get is the commissary on base, there's a reduced meat section and 80% of the items in there all the time is pork, the cashiers always give me weird looks like "what's this chick doing with pounds of freezer burned weird cuts of meat" lol

Hahaha!! Oh my god, do I relate on that! We're lucky to have a Safeway, TJ Maxx, Kmart, Starbucks (nomnonmonmnomnomnomnom), and some other things only 7-10 minutes down the road. Everything else is at least 15 minutes away. And even then, at that point I'm only buying Jimboy's Tacos or something at Petco. XD Bahahaha.

The co-op sounds awesome. I may still sign up, but I need to talk to the people I found to see what I can barter them for their meat and what meats they're willing to give me. I'm actually really anti-social. I get super anxious and my husband normally does every phone call for me. It's pretty bad. But everyone out where we live is just so unusually friendly compared to the Bay Area where I grew up. I walk into Home Depot and they're asking us questions about how our last house project went because they hadn't seen us in a while. Like, what? You remember me? And it happens everywhere we go! A woman at Starbucks will ask where our puppy is, or how our broken car is doing since we're still in a truck. It is, to me, insane. So it has helped me be... slightly less shy only because I am totally forced into fun conversations all the time. I have to admit though, I haven't worked up the courage to call the woman about her pig meat X.X I really need to get on that.

Omg yes lol we are truly spoiled  I love the convenience of having so many things nearby and it's going to be heartbreaking (lol!) when we move closer to base in August. And we also have a petco AND petsmart right down the street. Too bad Max has one too many toys right now...lol

I'm over here talking about the co-op but I have yet to place an order because of the lack of space xD and DUDE omg I can totally relate AGAIN lol this is madness hahaha. I'm from southern cali and it wasn't a rough area or anything but people didn't walk past you and say hello hows it going and it's just mindblowing to me that whenever I go on walks or stores that i frequent or just like, anywhere haha people are SO friendly around here. My awkwardness prevents me from responding normally sometimes im just like "uhhh HI" all loud hahahah or I play it off as if I didn't hear them and ask them to repeat themselves which gives me a bit more time to think of a response lmao. The sad part is that Max is very wary/suspicious/completely overwhelmed of new things (but then again what puppy isnt?!) and he takes forever with desensitization  but my husband likes to poke fun at the both of us saying "he gets his social awkwardness from you" :( lol
